Rehearsals are underway for our forthcoming November spectacular – The Best of British.
The event will take place at The Drill Hall, Amwell End, Ware on Saturday 17th November. Regular followers will be aware of our ‘themed’ November concerts and in recent years we’ve even asked you to come in some appropriately themed attire – and this year is no exception. As our theme is patriotic in nature, we would welcome anyone coming to the event to wear something red, white or blue!
The evening will be divided into small portraits of British life/events, and in this Jubilee year one such portrait is “For Queen and Country” where music reflecting the royalty of our nation will be played, including Walton’s classic coronation march, Crown Imperial. We will also be playing music from all four corners of Britain in a portrait called “This Scepter’d Isle” and will include a Welsh march, a Scottish folksong, an English dance and an Irish reel! “Contemporary Britain” is represented by music reflecting the busy lives we live and the multi-cultural nation we have become.
In our portrait of “Britain at War“, we celebrate the bravery of both the forces personnel in music from The Dambusters and 633 Squadron as well as the bravery of the British nation with a couple of classic singalongs (with resident band vocalist John Sharples leading proceedings) with songs such as White Cliffs of Dover and We’ll Meet Again.
Our Best of British evening will conclude with the fitting “Last Night of the Proms” portrait with Jersusalem, Fantasia on British Sea Songs and Elgar’s Pomp & Circumstance March No. 1 – where your vocal talents will be called upon once more to sing Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory!
As with all our spectaculars, it’s not just about the music, as there will also be Quiz Prizes to be won, a Licensed Bar and Table Snacks. So grab your flags and your party poppers and join us on Saturday 17th November 2012 as:
